Why a POWERMASTER?

We have been installing vacuum systems in Southern California for nearly 20 years, in homes from less than 1000 square feet to over 30,000 square feet.   Though most single motor vacuum systems will handle the smaller homes, we know what works in the larger ones.   For these large homes, we have the P200 double powered, and the P300 triple powered units.

Large homes need more than one motor

While many companies boast that their single motor systems will handle homes of 6,000, 8,000, or even 15,000 square feet, we have actually installed hundreds of systems in such large homes in places such as Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, Newport Beach.  Our feeling is that you can never have too much vacuuming power.  We have also pleased many customers, by replacing under-powered units in large homes with our P200 unit.  Also, one should not be fooled by these square foot claims, as much of it depends on the layout of the house.  A single storied 6000 square foot home will have much longer pipe funs than a 2 or 3 storied 6000 square foot home.  Installing the right system in the home is key to having great vacuum performance.  Adding a second motor increases the airflow wich causes the vacuum to clean more efficiently.

One of the benefits of the POWERMASTER units is that they are all fully upgradable.  One can buy the P100 unit, and upgrade it to the P200 by adding a motor.  The collection tank has a second port from the factory, so all one needs to do is hang the new motor and plumb it to the tank.

Another important thing to consider is altitude

The higher the altitude, the more one needs 2 motors rather than one versus the same sized home at sea level.  At higher altitudes there is less air, so the airflow (measured in cubic feet per minute or CFM) is less.  Having a second motor increases the airflow.  It is, after all, the moving air which moves the dirt which cleans the home.

Many people are confused as to how to judge the power of a built-in vacuum system. The best way to measure power is by the Air Watts, not horsepower. This is the industry standard measurement of the working vacuum power.  Nearly all vacuum manufacturers use motors made by the same company (Ametek/Lamb).  The difference is in the type and size of motors used, as well as the design of the unit. This is one of the many POWERMASTER advantages. They still use the more expensive 7.2" diameter motors, not the 5.7" diameter motors many other manufactures have gone to.  Their motors are an open peripheral design which provides minimal air-flow restriction.  These larger motors will also last longer.

The canister is designed so that the filter bags never touch the canister wall, thus giving the maximum airflow through the bags at all times. The canister is also made of high impact polypropylene, which will not rust, fade or chip.  The canister is guaranteed not to break or crack for life.

The POWERMASTER's unique modular design of motors and canister allows installation flexibility.  For instance, the motors can be installed away from the canister, such as in an attic or under the floor, totally eliminating any motor noise. This is desirable when the unit must be installed inside the home, due to a detached garage. As mentioned above, this modular design feature also allows for the addition of another motor in the future if desired, making each POWERMASTER unit fully upgradable.  Our modular design is also beneficial in the very rare instance of a clog in they vacuum line.  You can remove the motor from the mounting bracket, and use it to draw the clog back out of the system.  (See  how to clear a clog flyer for details on how to safely clear a clog.)

POWERMASTER POSITIVE AIR FILTRATION IS BETTER

We believe in bag systems which filter out and collect the dust and debris.  With our years of servicing vacuums of all types, we long ago became convinced that filtering is the only way to go.  With this type of system, you have clean filtered exhaust air, you do not have dust passing through the motor fans, and you do not need to vent the unit outside. With the unique POWERMASTER no mess bag system, you have the added benefit of less mess when changing the bag.   This is because our bag has only a small 2 inch opening, rather that the 15 inch opening of most other bag systems.

Many manufactures use true cyclonic or filtered cyclonic systems.  In the true cyclonic systems the dirt is supposedly trapped in the canister.  The problem is that even the best of these systems will trap only about 93-95% of the dust particles.  The rest of the dust travels through the motor fans and must be vented outside your home.  This dust causes wear on the motors, as well as dust collecting in the pipes from the unit to the outside.  Why not simply trap all of the dust particles.

True cyclonic systems do have a screen filter located just before the motors.  These screen filters do get clogged, and must be cleaned out from time to time, in order to preserve the advertised efficiency of the system.  While cleaning out these filters, one can count on getting literally covered with dust and debris.  This we know from our service experience, and it is no fun!  We recommend having your nose and mouth covered with a filter, as this fine dust is no fun to breathe in.   Many who buy these systems do not know that they need to clean these screens, or simply neglect doing so.  We have been on service calls where cyclonic systems have virtually no power at all, because these screen filters are so clogged.  This also causes the motor to wear prematurely.

Another concern with the cyclonic type systems is overfilling the collection tank.  Doing this can cause debris to be sucked into the motor.  This can cause severe damage to the motors.  Vacuum motors are running at very high RPMs.  Dust and debris collecting on the fan blades can cause the motors to vibrate, as they become out of balance. This can  cause motor failures.  Finally, the exhaust vent itself can get clogged, which restricts airflow.   All these things must be considered before purchasing a cyclonic system.  Bags may cost  about $12.00 per year, which is not expensive when one takes into account the both the cost of repairing a system, and the mess savings.   With the POWERMASTER no mess bag system, you can save yourself from all this mess.

Other cyclonic systems use a filter to keep dust from getting to the motors.  The filters usually consist of foam rubber or an inverted cloth bag.  These filters must be cleaned off from time to time.  Some manufactures claim once a year, while some require they be cleaned at each emptying.   As in the case of the screen filters above, this is not a fun task.   Furthermore, these filters do get clogged, and therefore they do restrict the performance of the system.

Though it is true that flittered systems will restrict performance more than cyclonic systems, one must remember that all cyclonic type systems decrease in performance as dust is collected, and the filters are clogged.  But the greatest benefit of filtered systems is your peace of mind in knowing that the motor is protected from harmful dirt.  Our double filtration system removes all but the most microscopic particles. This is very important, because the motors then stay free of dirt and dust. This allows for longer motor life than non-filtration systems.

The POWERMASTER systems use a tapered cloth bag to hold the paper bag.  The disposable paper bag needs to be changed only every 3-4 months in a standard sized home.  Since every vacuum does need to be emptied from time to time, and doing so can be messy, the POWERMASTER uses a no mess paper bag. This bag seals around the 2" intake pipe, thus eliminating the dusty mess usually associated with changing vacuum bags.  Now when you change your bag, you do not have to worry about breathing in or spilling all that dust and debris.

POWERMASTER WARRANTY
FULL FIVE YEAR WARRANTY:  POWERMASTER Built-in Vacuums as the manufacturer warrants the system to be free from defects in material or factory workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of purchase and/or installation, for the original consumer purchaser.  This does not apply to commercial applications, and does not include misuse, abuse, or normal wear and tear, acts of God, accidents, improper installation, or failure to provide proper maintenance.  Should any defect become evident within this five (5) year period to your POWERMASTER system, POWERMASTER, will repair or replace at their discretion any part or parts necessary for system performance without cost to the system owner.  This warranty does not apply to disposable bags, filters and/or physical installation.

LIFETIME CANISTER WARRANTY:  POWERMASTER also warrants the canister, for the life of your system, from corrosion, cracking, or breaking, due to normal usage.
